K-8 Scholastic Championships

7/21/13

With forty participants split among three sections, the Chess Club of Fairfield County hosted one of our most successful, competitive and fun tournaments to date!  The K-2 section saw our first ever five way tie for first place.  The standings had to be determined by tiebreak points.

K-2 Standings

1st: Parker Laskoski
2nd: Aalok Bhattacharya
3rd: Rex Lu
4th: Isabella Hall
5th: Alexander Rolfe

The K-5 section was the largest and most competitive.  Filip Graham and Alexander Yi tied for first place with 3.5/4 each.

K-5 Standings

1st: Filip Graham
2nd: Alexander Ye
3rd: Alexander Kupersmith
4th: Dillon Hurst
5th: Andrew Gray

The K-8 section also had its fair share of drama.  Third ranked Andrew Feldman looked to be cruising to an easy victory when he was stopped at the last second in the final round after Ambika Grover managed to draw him.  However, it was not enough for anyone to catch him and Andrew still finished half a point ahead of the runners-up.

K-8 Standings

1st: Andrew Feldman
2nd: Jack von Riesemann
3rd: Harris Semertzidis
4th: Ambika Grover
5th: Bryan Weisz

More impressive than the results of these incredibly talented youngsters was the incredible sportsmanship demonstrated by all of the participants who were all gracious both in victory and defeat!  Be sure to join us for our next K-8 Championships on August 18th!
