The Main Event Chess Match

4/5/20

CCFC's first online chess match took place today and saw an epic battle between National Masters Daniel Lowinger and Mikhail Koganov. The format for the match saw the players start with two games G/15 +2 second increment followed by approximately an hour of blitz at G/3 with 2 second increment. White won each of the first two rapid games in crushing fashion. Koganov took an early lead in the blitz, winning the first game and drawing the second. However, he lost his momentum after an unfortunate loss due to a dramatic mouse slip in the third blitz game. Daniel Lowinger fought back to win four games in a row and take a commanding lead going into the final minutes of the match. Despite a final game loss, Lowinger was able to clinch the win with a final score of 8-6. The comptitors finished the match with a brief post mortem where they discussed the ups and downs of the match. Congratulations to both for providing such an exciting exhibition of competitive chess!
