Friday Night Action

12/14/12

Three masters and octogenarian Oswaldo Fernandez competed in a very tough first quad at this week’s Friday Night Action.  NMs Ian Harris and Daniel Lowinger drew in round one and then won their next two games to finish tied for first with 2.5/3.  Fernandez came within a whisker of checkmating Harris’ king in the center of the board, but a last minute tactical melee and time pressure reversed the situation and Harris escaped.  The second quad was won convincingly by CCFC Director Melvin Patrick with a perfect score.  Of note was the performance of Al Pinto who scored a draw against the 600 point higher rated Guy Colas and his near victory over Robert Steindorf who also maintained a 600 point rating edge.   Watch out for those underdogs!
